[Book] The Mercy of Stuhn

The Mercy of Stuhn
While son or daughter of Skyrim need not be reminded of merciful Stuhn, there are others in this empire who have never heard the tales and the stories of Stuhn, and call him Stendarr. Stuhn is the brother of Tsun, and the Shield-Thane of Shor, but when the Elf-Gods descended and killed his brother and his lord Shor he himself was spared and taken prisoner. Long did the Elf-Gods keep him, they tortured and debased him with their words and actions. Through this suffering Stuhn learned the value of mercy, and the value in sparing a life on the battlefield. When Stuhn the merciful returned to his kin, and the Nords of Skyrim, we turned him away, for it was not then the custom to extend mercy to your enemies, or to take prisoners in war as he had suggested, though our hearts now warm to such kind and just things. He left then, down from the north and into the gods of Cyrodiil, where he became Stendarr, god of merciful might. Stuhn often takes Tsun’s place as the guardian of Sovngarde, and while his brother tests the mettle and prowess of every soul who wishes to enter, Stuhn takes mercy on them and allows all souls who wish to enter. Stuhn is the whale, which is indeed a mighty beast, and though it is strong it does not recklessly lay waste to the ships on the sea, nor is it easily subdued. and like Stuhn it sometimes wanders south, and sometimes north. Stuhn did not deny us his mercy when he traveled away from his clan hall, else he would never come back to guard Sovngarde, but instead left till the Nordic people could appreciate the value of his words and the worthiness of might tempered by loving mercy.

The Mercy of Stuhn

While no true son or daughter of Skyrim need be reminded of merciful Stuhn, there are others in this empire who have never heard the true tales and songs of this mighty god they call Stendarr. Stuhn is the brother of Tsun, and the Shield-Thane of Shor, but when the Elf-Gods descended and killed his brother and his lord Shor he himself was spared and taken prisoner. Long did the Elf-Gods keep him; they tortured and debased him with their words and actions. Through this suffering Stuhn learned the value of mercy, and the value in sparing a life on the battlefield. When Stuhn the Merciful returned to his kin, and the Nords of Skyrim, we turned him away for it was not then the custom to extend mercy to your enemies, or to take prisoners in war as he had suggested, though our hearts now warm to such kind and just things.

He left then, down from the north and into the midst of the gods of Cyrodiil, where he became Stendarr, god of merciful might. Stuhn did not deny us his mercy when he traveled away from his clan hall, else he would never come back to guard Sovngarde, but instead left until the Nordic people could appreciate the value of his words and the worthiness of a might tempered by loving mercy.
