Nargozh Camp Quest: The Alovach and the Nargozh [Luxray]

Post by Rakanishu »

The Orcs of Nargozh Camp traded with a group of Reachmen but afterwards discovered that the latter stole something during their visit. They can't find them, but perhaps the player could be of help in tracking them down and recovering some item. They traded a few goats for a witch that wasn't a witch, but was in fact just a young Reachmen girl under a spell. So there is this disenchanted Reachmen girl in the camp who is under guard by the chieftain in his yurt. The girl refuses to talk to you due to the big orc with the axe, you have to speak to the chieftain first about it.

He asks you to you take the girl back to the Reachman camp. When you get there, the Reachmen say that they have already killed and skinned the goats. So you have some choices -- to get something of equal value in trade -- this is a Barter check (please don't make it obvious to the player Fallout-style like [Barter] <choice>). If you have a high barter skill, you get additional, more valuable options to take back in return for the girl. Or you can kill them in retribution, kill the girl, etc but these are “bad ends” to the quest. Best barter check -- they give you some powerful Reachmen trinket you can keep or return to the Orcs for some gratitude, 2nd best you get a load of furs etc which the Orcs will take in a bad situation, 3rd best you get very little and the Orcs at the camp don’t think too much of you.

Please use the ID prefix Sky_qRe_NAR02_.

I'd like to work on this as part of the Nargozh claim now that Mairager got finished (and I quit being lazy)

Here's my proposed journal
Sky_qRe_NAR02_Alovach

0 | The Alovach and the Nargozh
10 | An Orc at the Nargozh Camp in the Druadach Highlands suggested I speak with their chieftain regarding a dispute with a nearby tribe of Reachmen.
20 | Chieftain Narkhagikh told me how the Alovach sent his tribe a bewitched Reachmen girl instead of a real witch, and asked for my help in the matter.
25 | I declined to help Chieftain Narkhagikh for now.
30 | I agreed to help return the Reachmen “witch”, Bedli, to the Alovach, and reclaim the value of the goods traded for her.
35 | I attempted to speak with Bedli. The poor girl was terrified and didn’t remember much from being under a spell on the journey to the Orc camp.
40 | Bedli agreed to accompany me back to her tribe at Mairager.
45 | I escorted Bedli safely back to Mairager.
50 | The chieftain of the Alovach regretfully informed me that the goats from the Nargozh have been skinned, killed, and eaten already. He offered me a choice of items in return for Bedli.
51 | I chose a flask of Alovach gyrgg to settle the trade debt.
52 | I chose a stack of goat furs to settle the trade debt.
53 | I chose a bundle of wormmouth hides to settle the trade debt.
54 | I chose a barrel of preserved meats to settle the trade debt.
55 | I chose a powerful Reachman amulet to settle the trade debt; unlike the girl, this one is truly magickal.
56 | Instead of choosing goods in exchange for the girl Bedli, I slew the chieftain of the Alovach.
61 | Chieftain Narkhagikh was completely unimpressed that I had traded away the girl for a flask of gyrgg.
62 | Chieftain Narkhagikh was grudgingly resigned to receiving back the skins of his traded goats in exchange for the girl.
63 | Chieftain Narkhagikh was mildly pleased to see I had returned with the wormmouth hides for the girl, and gave me a small reward for my efforts.
64 | Chieftain Narkhagikh was impressed that I had returned with the girl’s weight in preserved meat, and gave me a reward to thank me for my efforts.
65 | Chieftain Narkhagikh was very impressed that I had secured a powerful Reachmen amulet with real magick in exchange for the girl. He gave me a reward to thank me for my efforts.
66 | Chieftain Narkhagikh admired my direct approach to settling the trade dispute and gave me a small reward.
110 | Bedli is dead. Chieftain Narkhagikh will have a hard time reclaiming his part of the trade now.
120 | Chieftain Narkhagikh is dead. He will be worried no longer about trade disputes.
With the idea of the dispute coming from "Language Difficulties" (The reachmen try to pass off that they sent the Orcs a bewitched girl, instead of a witch). Depending on the players barter skill you will receive different choices during the negotiation of returned goods. The better rewards are progressively harder to get. I also imagined the cask of preserved meat would be the second-best reward, but also hugely heavy to carry all the way back to the orc camp. Or you know, you can just kill the Alovach chieftain/wise woman (I confess, I didn't look to see who's in charge there yet)
The reachmen amulet will be good enough that you would want to keep it and not give it back to the Orcs, probably. Ideas for what that could be are welcome.

Let me know if you can think of some quest states I didn't include in the journal too.

Granted! Tristior raised a good point that the Alovach are "kinda shrinking and defeated when you talk to them. Wanting to please the Orcs could be a good solution."

Now that I found out I was being a dolt by not loading Sky_main, I fixed a load of bugs! The quest should now work in all respects, only outstanding bug is that Bedli refuses to stop following you once you reach Mairager, Communal Hut

few remaining bits to do include alter NPC outfits, pathgrid, place exterior NPCs, ownership. Claim should be rounded off by next week

Merged into DS section file. The dialogue was on point!

Changes:
- Added more entries under "travel together" so the player can tell the Reachman to wait/follow
- Renamed NPCs to Sky_qRe_NAR02_..., and renamed scripts to Sky_qRe_NAR02_..._sc
- Added an AI Wander command to the Reachman's script so that she no longer follows the player after arriving at Mairager's Communal Hut
- Replaced the scripts on the Chief's wives with an Follow package under their Wander packages
- Made some dialogue optimizations here and there
- Cleaned a number of dirty dialogue entries + dirtied NPCs from Sky_Main
