Location
I've researched the lore that could point us in direction of the island's location, but we only really know:
1. It's most likely in the Sea of Ghosts
2. Uriel V conquered it in preparations for his invasion of Akavir. He did not conquer it to use it as a vantage point, instead he used Esnoriet's Black Harbor which was conquered in 3E282.
3. It is between Tamriel and Akavir "The Emperor's plans for the invasion of Akavir were laid in the 270s, when he began the conquest of the small island kingdoms that lie between Tamriel and Akavir." This doesn't give us any further information, as all we know of Akavir is that it's to the east somehow.

And now for speculation
1. The island was initially discovered in ME/1E by Breto-Nordic whalers from the coasts near Farrun.
2. The name Roscrea is a corruption of the proto-Nordic "Roarskreath". It was named after whale-chief Roar, who first set foot on the island.
3. Early Breto-Nordic colonisation happened, but the colony eventually died out. The ruins can still be found of a few fishing villages.
4. The settlements were eventually reported to the Direnni nobility, and the name appears for the first time in Direnni taxation registers from 1E376 as "Roscrea Isle"
5. There's giants on the island. They've been there since before the first Atmoran settlers set sail, and ancient Nordic myths recounts how island dwelling giants blew wind into the sails of Ysgramors fleet when Elven mages had tried to turn the winds against the companions.
6. A second wave of colonisation happened with one of the last immigrant fleets from Atmora, whose boats were so weak and frail they barely made it to the island. The Atmoran settlers are still there, and have developed their own culture. They revere the island as Last Hope.

Re: Project Roscrea
Hey man, the pictures are great the map especially. I think the inspiration pictures are missing one thing, and that is there should be snow--not everywhere, but I think snow is a big part of Roscrea because of it's latitude,
Also I really like the map you provided, because that is in quite a different place than where I was going to place my Roscrea. I still have the files for mine althugh it is a mostly flat island, so if I ever decide I can repurpose it as anothr island, or decide to not do anything with it at all. I really look forward to seeing this project come to fruition.

Re: Project Roscrea
Oh there will be snow, don't worry.
Re: Project Roscrea
Okay good lol, I would probably be slightly upset if you decided otherwise.
To what extent have you starded Roscrea?

Re: Project Roscrea
The northern part of the island will be snowy, and the southern part barren grasslands.
Only conceptual planning and the heightmap. Dragonstar has a higher priority right now.

Re: Project Roscrea
Okay sounds good. I'm interested to see this progress along. Also I like the idea of the nothern part being snow; in my opinion everything would realistically be snpwy, but I dislike cold weather and snow, plus it makes for boring gsmeplay for everything to be snow.
Re: Project Roscrea
I'm really liking the way that looks.

Re: Project Roscrea
This looks interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with! About how big will Roscrea be compared to, say, Solstheim?
