Trying to model something

Post by Ted »

This is not showcase at all, because I had zero skills, I create thread here because I can not in assets creation forum. But I trying to model something for P:C... this is an exterior window to Skingrad baced on Saint_Jiub concept... sadly, I has no textures so I use what I can find http://i.imgur.com/2WRVrff.png

Did you edit the vanilla textures to be dark or is it just the view within the modelling program?

I would propose continuing with additional skingrad structures, when you have time and motivation to make them. Then we can offer you feedback, while you are moving along.

Yeah I edit some vanilla textures to dark-green but it can be my 3ds max too :)

I will continue do skingard structures as I have time (I belive I will some :D ), at now without textures.
Thanks!

UPDATE! Update roof part, and made entrance model. Here screenshot without texture and smoothing groups

I'm curious how it will look once you have made the bottom trim and the corner elements and textured everything. It looks pretty okay so far. You might have to tweak the roof dimensions later, but it should be easier to judge when every part from the concept is finished.

Edit: For everyone's information. He is working on the top house on this concept here: http://i.imgur.com/kRyYMW9.png

Small update - fix roof as you said, fit all together to see how it looks. http://i.imgur.com/azVBBVJ.png About texturing and stuff... in vanilla morrowind models is very often a group of objects. I need detach parts on my models too? Now all models maded as single peace.

That looks quite good so far. You will still have to adjust dimensions to turn it into a believable building. I suggest making the bottom trim less thick but higher, so the building can be properly shifted into the terrain later and the whole doorway + door much smaller than it currently is. The window by the bottom and the corner towers probably need to be smaller aswell. I wonder, if you shouldn't also model the green, toothed corner elements rather than adding them to the texture. I think it would feel and look better, if that piece was modelled rather than painted on the texture.

You don't need to. You only have to assign the right material to the respective parts of your model, by selecing all faces that are supposed to get a certain material and click assign in the material panel while having the right material selected. That will make sure that the right material+texture is assigned on export.

Update, made corner elemts test... hope they look ok http://i.imgur.com/ZqjKMO6.png About bottom: bottom part (foundation) is separate model, if you say about high of that you can do as high as you want in cs :D but I will made it less thick as you said

About scale of entrance and window: I do all models to scale or original mw buildings and entrances. If I do intrance smaller, player can stuck here... maybe do main part more big? Draw here in paint what I need to fix :D

About textures: can you give foundation, walls, foof and window textures that you think looks close to what looks close to what needed here from your data that I can mess with them? Because I has no idea what kind of texture I need use for green foundation parts, it need be dark stone, or green painting, or something different.

I suggest making the single elements smaller and less broad. They will otherwise make the house look much smaller.

Exactly. Of course the door needs to match existing dimensions, so the rest of the building must be made bigger in comparison instead of the door made smaller. I don't have access to an image program atm, so I can't show what I mean. Just use your judgement? Imagine it as a bigger building than shown on the concept picture.

Right now at the moment, I don't have access to our data files. Just use vanilla imperial house textures for the time being?

http://i.imgur.com/m7LJVbi.png Fix issues with scale you suggest. This will be ok?
About textures: Okay, I try to seach for them in data myself :D For window glass I will use hd version of vanilla type glass but yellow, for grey parts imperial fort textures with maybe different colors, for other I will see what I can made or use :)

I think the scale looks great. Perhaps a tiny bit smaller. But either way we're going to need variations, with different sizes and shapes. Modularity is good.
