Books Master List

Post by SGMonkey »

A list of required books and guides needs to be maintained.

WH-Reaper suggested on the previous forum about using an existing mod for Morrowind which adds a tonne of books from Daggerfall. We would probably need permission from the original author to straight up merge it. Also, not sure about the legality of using books from previous games....?

About a books list.
Would probably be a good idea to order it by rarity or whatever.

I believe TR_Data already includes all the Daggerfall books.

Ah OK. What are the permissions for using the TR stuff?

Would need to have them separate in the HR data files anyway, to avoid being dependant on the TR_Data

Why don't you copy and paste the text from the TR books into new HR books instead of merging? Using their textures and icons would require permission unless you plan to make your own. Other than that, the actual text belongs to Bethesda, not TR, so you don't need to ask them to use that.

There have been a ton of mods that add books between Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and lately even ESO. Bethesda has never made a problem about this, and have not even acted against sites like the Imperial Library, which collects all game texts online. I think some people even made .pdf collections of them. While the legality of it is perhaps not 100% guaranteed, we seem to have the tacit approval to use books from one game in another.

TR, likewise, have always been very open about their resources, especially towards other province mods. Everything in TR_Data is available for other modders to use, except for three or four meshes where the modder in question had asked to keep them exclusive (mostly creatures, I think).
