Amulets, Belts and Rings
Amulets, Belts and Rings
Some things we don't have yet are specific amulets, belts and rings. These are fairly small and inconsequential items, since most (but not all) common trinkets from the vanilla game can be used everywhere. But it would still be nice to have a couple originals - a ring with red diamond setting, for example. And they would be very easy to make. Does anyone have good concept art/inspirations for small items like these?
Oblivion ring design, for reference:
At least one of the rings could be similar.
All non-unique rings use this one, but with different textures for the ring itself and the gem.
Metal types: Brass, Copper, Ebony, Gold, Jade, Silver.
Gem types: Pearl, Topaz, Ruby, Diamond, Emerald, Sapphire.
You can also look at the jewelry images here: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Jewe ... blivion%29

For a rustic Colovian ring, we could have a funny design with the ring featuring a row of silver stuts with a tiny gem on each of them (stuts are a recurring element for colovians and, to a degree, nords).
Other than that there should be rings with the obligatory diamond-shape engravement or perhaps an engravement showing another imperial symbol?

Moth rings!
About moth ring, I have some idea of design (I need to sketch it, though).
I believe I have some of my unused models of rings/amulets but they're on my dead laptop's HDD (I'm quite sure it's working but atm inaccessible). Maybe they would be usable for P:C.

Yep, it's nice design but I have one more thing in mind. Rather than using wings as ring (this first screen posted by R-Zero), I'm thinking about utilizing abdomen instead (and wings running along finger).

Here are my SHotN dedicated belts, I think some are quite PC friendly, feel free to add them if useful.

Definitely this what i imagined too at first ! This might be even a nice set of rings with a challenge or quest to collect them all from specific places.

Considering the materials, I would very much like to see a lot of Amber, Carnelian, Jade, Jasper, Onyx, Agate etc. instead of the usual gemstones. These would feel very Nibeneian I think, especially if they are smoothed, being found in rivers.
And don't forget Ayleid gold+moonstone rings.
About belts - if we go with slavic influences for Colovia, some of them could be in slavic style too - relatively wide and long, with repetitive ornament:
(don't mind the swastika, it's just a traditional sun symbol)

I think of Colovia as a mix of Greek and Roman with eastern European additions, including Romania and of course, the Slavs. So some similar belts might do.
So, Byzantine region, basically? I can get behind this.vrolok wrote:I think of Colovia as a mix of Greek and Roman with eastern European additions, including Romania and of course, the Slavs. So some similar belts might do.
Nibenese belts, on the other hand, could be based on Japanese ones - silks instead of wool, elaborate natural patterns contrasting with Colovians' schematic geometric ones:
Bull Rings could be nice. Silver and ebony:

I think ebony ring is too much . After all, it's quire rare, magic, glass-like (iirc?) material. With 'rare' as keyword. I don't think anybody would make rings/amulets using it (I know Morrowind has Ebony Ring [again iirc]). Maybe Dwemers (as I stated in my mod adding Dwemer Glass Ring [no Ebony, I wanted to use full vanilla textures and ebon has some strange part I don't like).
Speaking of rings, I personally love idea of snake as motif for rings/bracelets.

Well, the ebony Bull ring should obviously be a unique artifact, while silver Bull ring could be more common, but still very expensive.
There's exactly a ring like that in SHotN data already.Moritius wrote: Speaking of rings, I personally love idea of snake as motif for rings/bracelets.

I'm not sure about ebony finery, to be honest. Ebon is said to be exclusive to Red Mountain, and not native to mainland; in fact granting the Empire a monopol for extracting it was among the agreements of the Armistice. I think it could work as an unique item - maybe a signet ring made of ebon with an Imperial Dragon motif made of glass, symbolizing a superiority of conquerors over Morrowind and it's natural resources, granted to few deserving high officials of the Empire?
It would have to be extremely expensive, but there's no reason why it couldn't feature. After all, they're exporting ebony for a reason.

I need to find it, but I have an unfinished concept around here somewhere for Colovian military pins/medals, which would use the amulet slot in-game.
Fibulae?
Mostly Nibenese stuff, might not be the easiest to make, but just wanted to share some ideas on their cultural style.
Young snake skulls, likely covered in some form of dye or resin (I'm sure my jewelry-making knowledge is quite impressive). These I imagine to be popular among the Nibenese.
[hsimg=]https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/23 ... c33d6e.jpg[/hsimg]
Continuing with the snakes, multi-fingered rings depicting anything from dragons to fish might be worn.

[hsimg=]http://picture-cdn.wheretoget.it/qb1ik9 ... tacles.jpg[/hsimg]
These bird-feet earring may be over the top, but the idea of utilizing animal parts in jewelry design I think could be really interesting.
[hsimg=]http://img.humorsharing.com/media/image ... ry-007.jpg[/hsimg]
Because the Nibenese I feel are the body-mod type.

How does something like this look? 11 kb size against 4-8 kb of the vanilla Morrowind rings, vanilla textures only.

I think we can use this as one take on the moth theme. However, it would be cool to additionally have more shaped rings for that. Don't worry about having more geometry than vanilla. Rings are usually used in interior cells where there aren't these performance issues present in the exterior space.
Thing is, the rings are so tiny in game, it is really hard to see them. And you can't even zoom in on them properly. That's why I believe rings should be pretty big and their shape should make them stand out. I am afraid a moth like that would be barely noticeable, though the ring is nice.
Ah, that's good to hear. What is the recommended size, anyway? I think there must be some guidelines for this.worsas wrote:I think we can use this as one take on the moth theme. Another problem is, as vrolok said, rings are one of the smallest items in the game, and making them too detailed would be counter-productive.
Here's a comparison image of a vanilla ring,my ring and a skull:vrolok wrote:Thing is, the rings are so tiny in game, it is really hard to see them. And you can't even zoom in on them properly. As you see, they are already oversized compared to hat they would be realistically. The details are visible just enough.
Yeah, pretty good, you are right.
Another thing - can anyone point me to where I can see/maybe download the project's data? Using vanilla Morrowind textures is all nice and dandy, but the visual continuity would be better if I could use textures specific to the project.
Or should I just make my own? I'm not very good with those.

Okay, I just checked and it seems you can actually use items other than misc ones as keys! I placed a door and wired it to use a ring as a key through the use of MW Enchanted Editor and it works perfectly. "Common Ring used to open lock".
Thus, I propose we implement "key-rings", like the ones Romans used:
[hsimg=]http://www.ancientresource.com/images/r ... m-1986.jpg[/hsimg]
[hsimg=]http://www.ancientresource.com/images/r ... y-6732.jpg[/hsimg]
The models will be easy to make.
Now, where would they fit better? Colovia or Nibenay? I gravitate towards Colovia.

Personally, I feel more the Nibenay vibe. It just feels very mysterious, very fitting for Nibenay nobility. Colovians strike me as more straight-forward people, kinda like the Nords, just not as much.Now, where would they fit better? Colovia or Nibenay? I gravitate towards Colovia.
Great idea by the way!
Ah, but these are exactly that - a pretty simple and straightforward thing, Just a key-shaped piece of metal worn as ring. Nibenese, on the other hand, could have locket rings which would require keys themselvesvrolok wrote:Personally, I feel more the Nibenay vibe. They can probably have both, one to open another and more Still, doesn't strike me as a Colovian thing, don't know why. They probably could use it, but only if they were up to something. That's my feeling regarding Colovians.
Dunno, it seems as mundane as a keychain to me.vrolok wrote:They can probably have both, one to open another and more Still, doesn't strike me as a Colovian thing, don't know why. They probably could use it, but only if they were up to something. That's my feeling regarding Colovians.
